We have run an art competition in Perth and Kinross for 17 years, more recently we have been able to extend this to Grampian (Marr, Kincardine and Mearns and Garioch) and Angus. In time we hope to exand further across Scotland.
Each year we ask competitors to “Create a piece of art illustrating a ‘game or wildlife species from the British Isles, in its natural habitat.” Occasional variations are applied. Artwork can be produced in any medium, creativity is encouraged. There are 25+ prizes given out in each region and if possible, we will host a prize giving event for all winners and families to come and celebrate the local talent.
Iona Laing, organiser of the competition on behalf of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust said,
“It was extremely disappointing to have to cancel the prize giving event again when the pupils have gone to such, there is so much local talent to be celebrated. Everyone is a winner in our eyes, they have all put tremendous effort into Thank you to Studio East and the Basil D’eath Trust who sponsored the event this year, they have been a very valuable addition.”
“At the end of the day, everyone who has taken part is a winner, all pupils have done some research into their local species and learnt from the experience, they just have to continue this interest and will learn so much on the way about the need to protect the environment of British Game and Wildlife.”
