At the GWCT Scottish Game Fair 2026, we are proud to host a special programme dedicated to some of Scotland’s most cherished and endangered native dog breeds.

We are delighted to welcome Peter MacQueen, who will be helping lead this year’s Scottish Rare Breeds programme, bringing his expertise and passion for preserving these iconic breeds. Find out more.

Each day of the Fair will spotlight a different rare breed group – Gundogs, Hounds and Terriers – giving visitors the unique opportunity to experience a diverse range of Scotland’s native working dogs.

Friday 3rd July -Rare Scottish Terrier Breeds

We’re delighted to announce that Friday will showcase Rare Scottish Terrier Breeds, including Dandie Dinmonts, Skye Terriers, Cairn Terriers and Scottish Terriers.

These remarkable dogs will take centre stage in the Main Arena, as well as appearing in the Rare Breeds Area within the World of Gundogs, offering visitors plenty of opportunities to see them up close.

Throughout the day, you’ll be able to meet breed club members, speak with knowledgeable owners, and learn more about the history, character and future of these much-loved but increasingly rare breeds.

A Celebration of Scotland’s Native Breeds

Across the weekend, each breed group will take its turn in the spotlight, allowing visitors to discover the incredible variety of Scotland’s rare native dogs.

At a time when many of these breeds are in decline, these meet-ups are more than just a showcase – they are a celebration of Scotland’s original working dogs. Each breed represents a living link to our land, heritage and sporting traditions, and the dedicated community working to protect them.
