The GWCT Scottish Game Fair Cinema presents John Macnab in partnership with the British Film Institute.
AT THE SCOTTISH GAME FAIR
In 1925, John Buchan published his second most famous novel, John Macnab; three high-flying men – a barrister, a cabinet minister and a banker – are suffering from boredom. They concoct a plan to cure it. They inform three Scottish estates that they will poach from each two stags and a salmon in a given time. They sign collectively as ‘John McNab’ and await the responses – an evocative look at the hunting, shooting and fishing lifestyle in Highland Scotland.
In 1976, BBC and British Film Institute dramatized John Macnab, and has since been buried in the archives. This Summer set in our Open Air Cinema on Friday night, join us for a relaxed evening, whisky, wine and nibbles.
Bringing the whole thing to life, we meet Buchan’s granddaughter Ursula who will tell us about John’s extraordinary life which lead to her own biography – Beyond The Thirty-Nine Steps.
Tickets £20 – available in advance only. Visitors must also be holders of entrance tickets to The GWCT Scottish Game Fair.
