GWCT welcomes all young ecologists to ‘The Covey’, where you will find a host of exciting activities aimed primarily at younger children, although there is plenty for older children to enjoy too. We have our own stand exploring the trials and tribulations faced by a selection of our favourite birds, including the black grouse and grey partridge. Come along to learn more about these fantastic birds and enjoy the opportunity to take part in some egg colouring.
In the same space, we have also invited some friends to share their passions and expertise with you.
Come and meet the Queen in the Education Tent! The Perth and Kinross District Beekeepers Association will be sharing their expertise, knowledge, and passion for honeybees. There will be plenty of information, equipment, posters, and puzzles to enjoy, along with a colony of bees in an observation hive. Can you spot the Queen amongst the thousands of bees in the colony?
Learn about the different roles within the hive, why there is only one queen, and the honey the bees produce.

Come and chat with Will Beaumont, one of GWCT’s fisheries scientists. Learn about the salmon and trout research carried out by the GWCT, see the invertebrates (“mini beasts”) found in the River Tay, discover how to age fish by their rings — just like trees — and even have a go yourself.
Join ceramic artist Olya Kivlin as she celebrates our local wildlife through art. She will guide you through the process of creating a miniature hare sculpture from scratch for you to take home. Sessions run every hour, on the hour, giving you the chance to step away from the action and enjoy a hands-on clay workshop. Perfect for all ages!
