World of Gundogs

The world of gundogs is an ever-growing attraction at the Scottish Game Fair and a team of experts will be on hand all weekend to provide tips and advice. Ask about anything from feeding your pup correctly to working your fully trained adult dog on a grouse moor. Meet the breeds and find out what might be best for you before taking on a new puppy.

Training – Short training demonstrations by Charlie Thorburn and his team will run daily throughout the Fair to show just what can be achieved with training. Have a go and challenge your dog training skills with a course laid out to test the dog and the owner’s control and training by retrieving over obstacles with distractions. It is timed and points are deducted for faults. Excellent prizes for you and your dog.

Meet the Pups – Our popular puppy corner returns where children and adults alike can get a chance to play with the pups, or become accustomed and more relaxed with dogs if you or a relative wants to gain confidence. At worst you will get a nasty licking!

Raffle Prizes – Buy a ticket for a chance to win prizes ranging from dog beds to training sessions for dummies!

Have a Go for Fun & Prizes – Bring your dog, or borrow one of ours, and put yourself and the dog through a series of challenges from heeling to water retrieves, gaining tips and knowledge from the trainer who will accompany you. It is not a competition but there will be prizes for anyone showing promise as a dog handler.

The Scurry

  • All three days 9.30 a.m. – 4.30 p.m.
  • Open to all handlers and any breed of dog.
  • Entries taken on the day.
  • Prizes each day – First, Second & Third.
  • Additional Prize of Tuffies Dog Bed Awarded to Best Lady (Friday) Best Gent (Saturday) & Best Junior (Sunday).
    Entry: £3.00
The competition simulates the requirement of a dog to mark a bird that has been shot and to retrieve the bird speedily to hand. Two dummies are to be retrieved. Each retrieve is timed and the times added together to give the total score. It is open to any variety of dog and has in the past been won by a sheepdog and by a lurcher! Competitors may re-enter to try and improve on their time. There are generous daily prizes for Open, and Junior (aged 16 or under) entrants and a trophy for the fastest time over the three days. Full rules available at the Scurry.
