Fred Taylor Memorial Trophy for Working Hill Ponies
We are again proud to host the very popular show of Hill Ponies in their working gear. Along with their handlers in their estate tweeds, the ponies will be tacked up with either deer saddles or game panniers.
The trophy was presented by Lord Dalhousie of Brechin Castle in memory of his head stalker at Invermark Estate in Glenesk, Fred Taylor. Fred was a great enthusiast of working with ponies; it is wonderful to see such support from estates and we expect to fill the Main Ring this year with a record number of entries.
We are fortunate to have John Rigby & Co. as our main sponsor this year, who will give a stalking rifle to the winning estate.
The Highland Pony Society are also once again supporting the event, and will provide a coveted Bronze medal for the best registered Highland Pony, as well as rosettes. Anne Taylor, Fred’s widow, will be with us to present a bottle of whisky to the winner.
Our judge this year is Craig Harbison, Estate manager, Barisdale Estate, Knoydart. The ponies will be stabled for most of the day on Sunday in pens generously sponsored by Davidsons Farm & Country Ltd. The ponies can be viewed there and their handlers are only too pleased to talk about their work on the hill and the estate from which they come, so give them a visit on your way round the Fair.
