This year the Falconry Mews area was hosted by the two falconry clubs in Scotland: The
Scottish Hawking Club and the British Falconers Club (Scottish Region). Our aim is to allow
visitors to see some of the methods, birds and equipment that are used in this ancient field
sport, which is designated as an 'Intangible Cultural Heritage' by UNESCO, dating back some
Daily flying displays took place in the Main Ring lead by Charlotte Hill of CJ's Birds of Prey, with an additional static display within the Falconry Mews area. Also displaying in the Falconry Mews Weathering area was a range of birds, from Eagles to Owls, by Elite Falconry from Fife, represented by Roxanne Peggie.
The Scottish Hawking Club brought Isis, the female African Crowned eagle - the only specimen of this species on offsite public show in the UK, and Sapphire the female Bonelli's eagle. Also Gorby the male golden eagle was once again in attendance. Gorby is in his 25 th year and has been attending the Scottish Game Fair for over 20 of those years! All three of these eagles are used for hunting and breeding. Elle the female white-tailed sea eagle was also with us, so a size comparison can be made between Scotland's only two species of native eagle.
The Falconry Mews area hosts a number of falconry furniture suppliers and artists, primarily for the falconers who visit the fair, but their products may be of interest to other visitors, who can see hand crafted equipment based on thousands of year's old traditional patterns, many using contemporary materials to enhance their suitability.
The Falconry Mews lets you get to see some of the most elusive raptors from around the world almost within touching distance.
