And what on earth happens on that island in the Tay?

And what on earth happens on that island in the Tay?

The crowds are gathering on the river bank of the Tay with Scone Palace providing a dramatic backdrop. But there’s no one in the river

wielding a rod and no 4×4 enthusiast testing their skills from the shoreline.

So, what could be drawing their attention? Elite working dogs… and they’re unmissable!

Beyond the thrill of the scurry ring, there is a world of working dogs testing their skills and abilities in a highly competitive environment outside of the shooting season.

The tests replicate, as closely as possible, various scenarios that could be encountered on a day’s shoot, using a canvas dummy for the retrieves. Each dog and their handler are tested on a variety of skills required in the field, from handler control and retrieving to hunting, water work and steadiness.

Entry to these Working Tests, other than the Four Nations International Gundog Competition, is by invitation only, and take into account the results of recent Working Tests happening throughout the country.

Although they aren’t open to join or ‘have a go’, there are a host of spectator opportunities for you to enjoy. The schedule is as follows:
